About an old Hungarian Tradition

Easter Eggs Decorating

On Easter Sunday, most Hungarian households have a basket filled with beautifully decorated Easter Eggs.

Above video shows, how the ancient custom have  been preserved and brought to life with traditional colors and motifs by the hands of a talented young Hungarian artist, Ildiko Fekete.

Ildiko explains the techniques of various Hungarian Easter Egg decorating traditions and designs, from all around the Carpathian Basin.

The decorated eggs served almost the same purpose as modern day greeting cards: they had a message scratched on them that you could “read” if you knew what the various symbols meant. When someone received an egg, it may have wished them a long life, or health, or many children.

Kodaly's views

on Music Education

Zoltan Kodaly, one of Hungary's most renowned contemporary music composer, conductor, expresses his views on Music Education.

As he says "...music is spiritual food for everybody" and it's "education should start nine months before the birth of the child".

He also implies that music should be part of general education regardless if someone, might be later on developing into a professional musician, every child should receive the same basic education of music. By the age of 14 all children should be on the same musical level.
